Handcrafted by Asano Shoten in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, the Chochin Lamp 03 – Mari reinterprets the traditional Japanese paper lantern through a contemporary lens.
Made using premium Mino washi paper and a spiralled bamboo rib structure, each lamp is formed by hand using wooden moulds. The bamboo frame is carefully wrapped, glued and papered panel by panel — a labour-intensive process refined over generations of lantern making.
Named Mari (まり), meaning “ball,” the generous spherical form creates an even, diffused glow in all directions. Resting on a minimal metal frame, the lantern has a grounded yet airy presence, offering soft ambient light that brings warmth and balance to a space.
